The magic of the Artic

Hotel

The hotels we choose are for those who love ‘adventure but are also attracted by  Swedish cuisine.   We offer full board accommodation and some of  the hotels that we use can accommodate large groups for meetings, special events (eg Weddings).  They offer the use of the conference room,  chapel, solarium, fitness centre and spa tubs which are situated in the open air. For special occasions they can organise dinners in traditional tents called ‘ lavvo’, or in traditional wooden huts originally  used by the Sami shepherds  – the Sami are the indigenous people of the Far North.

The location of some of the hotels are outside the town where they are often situated on the edge of large lakes and have spectacular views over the nearby countryside, or up in the hills, amongst the birch forests from where you can admire the breathtaking landscapes and absorb the enchanting scenery of the Arctic tundra. The rooms are comfortable, very warm, and normally built of wood, and none of the hotels belong to a hotel chain.  An invasion of hotel chains is the widespread fear of this area because if it happens we will quickly lose the ‘uniqueness’ of this unspoilt  winter paradise. The location in which we find ourselves is well away from the main tourist areas and this allows our guests to experience an environment where every corner of the traditional hotel tells us a little of its history. From old maps to original tools and wooden skis which used to be used during the great expeditions of the past.

You can also opt for even simpler, more informal accommodation which offers good quality local cuisine and free entry into a swimming pool and a sauna

We offer accommodation in the small rural town of Funasdalen – for those who prefer an informal, family run hotel, which provides standard rooms together with free access to a sauna and  a swimming pool, and in the winter to the thermal baths and hot tubs which are in the open air and where you can relax in front of the frozen lake.
In this small town there is a museum – built entirely of wood by the locals,  together with a few sports shops and two small supermarkets.

MOUNTAIN HOTEL IN ROROS – NORWAY

On special occasions we organise special dinners for groups of guests – a horse drawn sleigh and driven by locals dressed in traditional costumes will transport you in style two and a half kilometers into the forest where you will arrive at a wooden structure for your dinner of traditional Norwegian cuisine which you will enjoy whilst listening to the sound of violins playing.

It is a magical atmosphere – of days gone by. We are in Norway, right on the country’s border inside a delightful property that is full of flavours from the past. Those who choose to stay here for a few days will not find flat-screen televisions and wireless internet in their rooms.
The evenings are devoted to people, an opportunity to get together and to socialise. Everything is based on the local history, culture, and is provided by generations of a family who offer genuine hospitality to their guests.
